A 330 kV Talashkino Substation was built in 1970 and is a backbone of power infrastructure in Smolensk Region. Some of the transmission lines it feeds are part of the BRELL (Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia) circular power system. The project increased the reliability of trunk power lines in the European part of Russia.
